Try these tips for a smarter, safer home!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Update exposed outlets to GFCI.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If you\u2019ve got standard outlets installed in moisture-prone areas (such as the ones outside your home and in the bathroom), this is a quick fix that is also incredibly important for your safety. These special outlets dramatically decrease the risk of electrical shock, and today\u2019s electrical code actually requires them to be installed or upgraded in such areas. Don\u2019t forget to reset them monthly to make sure that your GFCI outlets are operating correctly! If you experience problems with your outlets or need <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">outlet repair<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, don\u2019t hesitate to give us a call.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Upgrade your light bulbs. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not using LED lights? This simple, do-it-yourself improvement decreases energy consumption and lowers your electrical bill. LED bulbs are initially more expensive, but they last nearly 50 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. You\u2019ll be especially grateful during the summer months, as they also emit less heat. They\u2019re safer, too; you\u2019re at a lower risk of an electrical fire, and they\u2019re less likely to shatter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Use surge protectors. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Power surges and lightning strikes happen, and your most valuable electronics and appliances are definitely at risk if you\u2019re not using surge protectors. For added protection, consider a whole-home surge protector device wired to your home\u2019s electric box. They\u2019re not cheap, but they\u2019re far less expensive than a new computer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Replace your batteries.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If you haven\u2019t swapped out the ones in your smoke or carbon monoxide detectors, get this done as soon as possible. This should be done, at minimum, once per year. If you haven\u2019t updated the detectors themselves in several years, now is the time. The latest models are more reliable and more energy-efficient than ever!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Get in a routine.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Turn off lights when you leave a room. Unplug \u201cvampire\u201d appliances that continue to use electricity when you\u2019re not using them, especially if you\u2019re leaving town.
